  • 5 Stars A Masterpiece of Perfection by Terry Tozer - Reading, Bracknell, Brighton & Hove, UK
  • Truly standing the test of time, who else could produce such a fine work such as this, non other than Kanazawa Sensei (10th Dan). This book, along with its sister volume two Shotokan Karate International Kata: Volume 2, has to be the best book for revising (and even learning) Shotokan Karate Kata. It's jam packed with good quality black & white pictures of Kanazawa Sensei performing the kata's in his inimitable style. Back views where necessary and "zoomed in" hand shots for some of the more complicated moves. All moves & stances are clearly labelled on each picture.

Written & explained in five languages: Japanese, English, French, German & Spanish.

This volume details the following kata from the Shotokan canon: The five Heian kata, Tekki Shodan, Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Sochin, Meikyo, Ji'in & Gojushiho-Dai.

You will not be disappointed with this masterpiece of a book, it should be in prime position on every Shôtôkan karate-ka's book shelf - or even in their training holdall.

It's quite difficult to obtain a new copy and no doubt will be hard to obtain in the next few years. Kanazawa Sensei is a legend in the making.

Look out for his other book Shotokan Karate International Kumite Kyohan which will compliment your collection from one of our greatest living karate masters. (IMHO)

  • 5 Stars Best kata book I have read by  -
  • I have been using books vol 1 and 2 for the past 14 years while training. It contains a comprehensive account of all the katas and loads of photos. Its probably about as clear as a book on this subject can be. If you are half serious about karate get a hold of a copy these books, now. 5*+ priceless!

  • 5 Stars The Shotokan bible, by the man himself. by Dave - Morecambe, Lancashire United Kingdom
  • Kanazawa has attained 10th dan, and is undoubtidly the worlds foremost eponent of karate. Hence this book is the "definative" text, for anyone studying karate (especially shotokan). The katas are photographed from every angle, and also have accompanying photos to demonstrate, particular techniques - to help avoid common mistakes. All katas are performed for you by Kanazawa himself. This books forms a great accompaniment to the other books by kanazawa covering other katas and Kumite. If your looking for a reference book then look no further. Kanazawa is the highest master, and this book is the karate bible. Get it, and keep hold of it.!
